"I rented a room with Clethorne Properties as an international student because I was doing my masters course in Brighton. I lived in the 15 Manton Rd. house. I was very comfortable living in one of their houses because they are recognised by the University of Brighton and University of Sussex as a student accommodation, they do not offer unfair rent contracts like some other landlords do and they fix whatever is broken within the same day or the next. Also, which was very important for me, one can talk and discuss with Carole any issue that might arise during the renting without delay or been ignored. All that I can say is that they respectfully take care of their property as well as they treat you in a very beautiful way. I know how difficult is to find a good room for students to rent, especially when you are an international because we feel more risk, so I really recommend to rent with them."

"Moving into one of Clethorne’s properties houses was the first experience of moving out of my family home and into rented accommodation, so I did not know what to expect of having a landlord. I met Les on the original viewing, and he was friendly, funny and could answer all of my questions. The price for the house was much cheaper to similar properties, it had everything I wanted and was in a desirable location, so I decided there and then to take the house as I knew others would snap it up! I had been rejected by halls of residence and I was working full time so Carole and Les made finding somewhere to live much easier by renting the rooms separately – other landlords required you to find a group yourself and come down together and this was just not possible for me. A really good feature of Clethorne Properties is the amazingly good rent discount scheme, which has really helped my finances as a student!
Les has responded to any queries quickly and jumps in his van to come to the house to solve them with his cheerful attitude! Carole is very approachable to speak to, even responding to my questions about houses almost instantly and with a lot of detail. I have spoken to many students at the university of their experience with rented accommodation and none of them have seemed to be anywhere near the level of care and service that I have received. I am moving into my second year with Clethorne properties again and I hope to stay with them throughout my four years at university. I feel cared for, looked after and feel I am getting a good deal for my money! Really would highly recommend these two, truly lovely, caring and fair people."

"I have rented with Clethorne for the past year, tenancy ending in September. I am currently a second year Physics student at the University of Sussex. I live with five others, some of which were in halls with me last year, and some of which were friends of friends.
My experience with the landlord service has been very positive, I have reached out multiple times and I am always met with a quick and helpful response. For example, a few days ago I asked whether I need to buy a new light bulb or if one would be put in for me. I was met with a fast response and was able to go out and get a new light bulb the following morning. We are sent emails regularly to notify us when any work is going to be done in the house which is very much appreciated. In my experience, I have always had reasonable responses and feel that I am yet to be treated unfairly."

After having a horrible experience in my first year housing I was so glad to be with a company who, from the off set were so kind and welcoming. If there were ever any issues they were dealt with politely and very efficiently which was always of great help.
Being away from home and having to learn to live without parents for the first time is always a scary adventure but it was made a lot easier knowing that the landlords you were renting with were kind and friendly. My name is Joy. I studied BSc (Hons) International Business at the University of Sussex from the years 2019-23. I have loved being a tenant of Clethorne Properties as they have such a lovely range of houses to choose from. The landlords (Carole and Les) are so kind and responsive, they respond to emails quickly and come to the house if ever they need to. They are professional, and always prioritise their tenants.
I stayed with Clethorne Properties for 3 years, and in that time, I moved to a different house with them. They were such amazing landlords from the start, and had lovely sized properties, all near convenient places (university, transport links, and shops) to choose from/ move to.
I would recommend any student in Brighton to rent with Clethorne Properties. As some of their properties are just a walking distance away from the University of Brighton and are near bus stops and train stations (e.g., Moulsecoomb) so travelling is easy. If you become a tenant, you would be with great landlords who care!
